Vertis Communications Environmental Commitment

Vertis Communications, a premier provider of targeted print advertising and direct marketing solutions, recognizes that leadership in the media industry carries a responsibility to the environment.  Vertis supports responsible and verifiable forest management practices by selecting only paper manufactured from sources that integrate the perpetual growing and harvesting of trees with the protection of wildlife, plants, soils, and water and recovered fibers from waste paper products. We embrace continuous process improvement, investment in new technology and waste reclamation as ways to conserve natural resources by minimizing waste in our manufacturing process.  Vertis has a long history of investing in technology, materials and employee training to ensure a safe work environment and to maintain compliance with all applicable environmental protection regulations.

Certified Paper Procurement Policy

Vertis promotes the conservation and sustainable use of forests. We procure papers from a variety of certified sources that are also committed to the promotion of responsible wood and fiber procurement based on sustainable forest management practices, which ensure the renewability of forest resources and meet the needs of our customers.

To do this, we:

1.     Have achieved, and will maintain third-party certification for SFI, FSC, and PEFC in our operations to recognize industry accepted chain of custody standards to track and document the procurement and disposition of papers from certified suppliers throughout our manufacturing operations

2.     Train employees working in our manufacturing operations

We also acknowledge and adhere to the standards of the following three recognized sustainable forest management (SFM) standards in place throughout North America and world-wide including:

1.     The Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI) program, which promotes the practice of sustainable forestry on all forest lands in the US and Canada, and promotes responsible wood procurement practices

2.     The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) program, which promotes the responsible management of the world’s forests

3.      The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), which is a global umbrella organization promoting sustainably managed forest throughout the world

Vertis is committed to continuous improvement, practices the concepts of LEAN Manufacturing to reduce process wastes, and recycles process materials.
